Job Purpose
The Senior Architect will lead and manage the technical execution of architectural projects from concept through to construction completion, ensuring alignment with design intent, client expectations, and regulatory compliance. As a key leadership figure within the firm, the role combines high-level design oversight, client and consultant interface, team mentorship, and executional excellence across all stages of architectural delivery. The Senior Architect will be expected to uphold and evolve the firm’s design standards, integrate sustainable solutions, and foster innovation across project workflows, contributing meaningfully to Boogertman + Partners Nairobi’s studio’s culture and growth.
This position aligns with Boogertman + Partners’ vision for innovative and contextually responsible design, contributing to projects that generate social, economic, and environmental value.
The role shall be focused on the following responsibility areas:
Technical project execution
- Oversee and manage the technical delivery of projects across all phases from design to construction, ensuring thorough documentation, effective administration, and compliance with design, regulatory, and constructability standards.
- Lead coordination with external consultants including structural, MEP, civil, landscape, and specialist consultants to ensure design integration and technical alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
Team leadership
- Manage architectural resources through effective work allocation, coaching, and continuous development.
- Motivate and guide multidisciplinary teams to achieve project excellence while fostering a collaborative studio environment.
Client management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle.
- Understand client visions and objectives, translating them into actionable design and technical strategies while ensuring consistent client satisfaction.
Quality assurance and risk management
- Conduct rigorous quality control and constructability reviews of milestone deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and internal QA protocols, managing project risk through proactive problem-solving.
Site oversight
- Actively participate in construction administration, including site visits, reviewing drawings, and addressing site-related queries.
- Ensure that design intent is maintained throughout the construction phase.
Business development
- Support Directors in identifying and nurturing potential project opportunities through existing networks and successful project delivery.
- Contribute to the development of new business pipelines.
Project handover and closure
- Ensure comprehensive project close-out procedures are completed, including documentation, snag resolution, and client feedback sessions, ensuring smooth transitions and high client retention rates.
Sustainability and design integration
- Champion the integration of sustainable design principles into architectural practices.
- Stay abreast of global trends to bring innovative and climate-conscious solutions into the firm’s design ethos.
Qualifications and Experience
- A holder of a bachelor’s degree in architecture or relevant subject.
- A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in architectural practice post-grad.
- Must be a registered architect by a recognized body such as BORAQS.
Technical Competencies
Design and visualization
- Ability to develop creative, functional, and aesthetically compelling design solutions with strong spatial awareness and understanding of form, function, and materiality.
- Ability to produce accurate and detailed architectural drawings (plans, sections, elevations, and details).
- Understanding of BIM workflows and protocols for design coordination and collaboration.
Rendering and visualization
- Basic understanding of 3D modeling and rendering using SketchUp, Rhino, Lumion, Enscape, V-Ray, or Twinmotion for visual presentations.
Digital and computer proficiency
- In-depth understanding of industry-standard architectural software for design, drafting, visualization, and coordination including Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite, BIM workflows and protocols, and Adobe Creative Suite amongst others.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting.
Regulatory compliance and codes
- Familiarity with building codes, zoning regulations, and local authority requirements.
- Ability to prepare and submit drawings for approvals while ensuring compliance.
Construction technology and detailing
- Basic understanding of structural systems, MEP coordination, and material selection.
- Ability to develop construction details aligning with industry best practices.
Sustainable & Environmental Design
- Understanding of green building standards (LEED, WELL) and passive design strategies.
- Knowledge of energy-efficient materials and systems.
Technical report writing and documentation
- Ability to prepare project reports, feasibility studies, technical specifications, and contract documentation.
- Strong record-keeping and meeting documentation skills.
