This proposal is submitted to the Chairman of the Ghana 2023 Project Team, Ministry of Youth and Sports by the Boogertman + Partners Professional Consortium on behalf of David Walter Limited and Associates in response to the Project Brief for the Development of Sports Infrastructure and Services for the 13th African Games 2023. This proposal deals specifically with the requirements for the 50 000 seater Athletics stadium and ancillary sports facilities within a sports precinct on the property defined in the brief.

Ghana is known throughout the world as one of the strongest sporting nations in Africa. The design response to create an iconic, landmark stadium and sports centre, symbolically charged with attributes associated with Ghana; acceptance, friendliness, co-operation, warmth and peace is unpacked on this private webpage.

Through the use of films clips, demonstrations of digital modelling and members of the team highlighting areas of specialised design detail we reflect the energy we have applied to the Ghana Sports Centre project. The energy that we know will transfer into a sports precinct and beautiful stadium that will inspire future performance, promote world-leading green design principles and leave a legacy that will make Ghanaians proud.

Throughout the years, spoke-wheel systems have proven to provide a structural- and cost-effective roof structure for spans beyond 40m. In addition to its lightweight, the cable-based typology also offers fast erection time. These reasons have led the design team to opt for a spoke-wheel system for the new roof of the Ghana Stadium.

Sustainability, circular design principles and building a well-being economy with the Ghana Sports Centre as its base

There are many forms of creative entrepreneurs in and around the sports precinct. Artists, artisans, urban gardeners, carpenters, shoemakers, metal and woodworkers, clothing designers and others, live and work in and around the site. By developing partnerships and mobilising a network of informal and formal sectors, can the sports precinct create pockets of vibrant business development, build community through purpose-driven initiatives and encourage innovation and participation to mutually support sustainable positive change? Imagine a stadium of zero waste where the materials used are the direct products of nature and are ready to return to nature. How can we shift our linear process from a take, make, use and dispose approach to a more circular one that involves a make, remake, rethink and reuse response to our projects and products?
