On 1 October 2019, The Hospitality Council hosted their annual Hosco-Audi Luxury Tourism Awards at the chic Riva Townhouse, celebrating the finest contributions to the South African hospitality sector. The Hospitality Counsel team spent considerable time this year scouring only the finest that South Africa's tourism industry has to offer and nominating the best of the best for the Hosco-Audi Luxury Tourism Awards. After shortlisting more than 60 nominees, the winners were announced at a prestigious event held at Riva Townhouse in Sandton.

We are proud that The Houghton Hotel has taken first place amongst the finest South African luxury hotels in South Africa, six months after opening its doors for guests. The 180 key Leading Hotels of the World Hotel had some intense competition in the category, and we are delighted that the judges acknowledged the role of the architectural design in the overall experience of the hotel when choosing it as the winner.

"Differentiated from the rest, it is a uniquely constructed product that showcases great architecture and design, allowing for ultimate privacy and convenience, catering to the various segmented groups and individual markets."

This project has been an incredible collaboration between the client, the entire design team, including the architects, landscape architect and interior designers and all of the partners and contractors committed to creating something distinctive and unique. "Ultimately it is the attention to detail that counts in creating the ideal experience for our leisure guests and putting their level of comfort in utilizing the amenities first is how Boogertman + Partners approached this architectural solution to the design," says Heleen Grimsehl. (Director, Boogertman + Partners.) "From overall functional space planning solutions, like placing the parking and services underground to create space for uninterrupted views of the Jack Nicklaus designed golf course, to detail considerations, for example situating the service area of the main bar lower than patrons so that they can see out to the landscape, our team have taken great care to consider every element of our patrons’ comfort and seamlessly fuse the indoor and outdoor milieus."
