Tower 2 at The MARC in Johannesburg is often referred to as The Jewel due to its imposing curved gold façade which has become a landmark on the Sandton skyline. The interiors for the Metropolitan Momentum Holdings Group (MMH)including Guardrisk and Eris Properties among other subsidiaries of the group, occupy the first eight floors in the twelve-storey building.

The shared reception on the ground floor takes advantage of the spectacular atrium, incorporating the curved façade to create a grand welcome for visitors.

The companies within the group share meeting rooms, training rooms and guest facilities on the ground and first floor. These collective infrastructure spaces bring people in the different business units together while smaller meeting rooms and workspaces on the floors above provide for each company's daily needs. The palette for these common areas is neutral, combining the warmth of wood panelling, the texture of exposed brickwork and raw concrete contrasted with the use of colour and unique fabrics to create interest.

To help create a cohesive workplace experience a typical principle in terms of the design and workspace elements was developed for the office floors. The use and extent of wallpaper, paint and applied decals was defined along with a standard format for working meeting rooms, printing facilities and pause areas including collaborative kitchen spaces and coffee stations. The individual companies could then determine specific brand applications and workspace configurations that work for their company cultures and identity.

As the group wanted to use existing and new furniture, the interior design combined an eclectic use of bought and refurbished pieces to create informal meeting and collaboration spaces alongside formal, open plan desking. The oval shape of the ‘Jewel’ merging with the rectangle core office space (known as 'The Jewellery Box') creates pockets of privacy for smaller intimate discussions or individual reflective work. These breakaway areas with their mix of furniture and colours, are ideally suited to fill these resulting spaces.
